Day 12: A book you love but hate at the same time.

Oops, I started this, saved the draft but never finished. So, it's late.

I'm going with three books today that fit the challenge in different ways.

The Hot Zone: A Terrifying True Story - Richard Preston

Yeah, the tag line is exactly it. This book is enthralling and an amazing read, but it is flipping terrifying. I love it because it's a damn good book, but hate it because it scared the crap out of me. Especially since one of the stories took place up the road from where I lived when I read it.

HDU #2: Dirt - India Lee

I really need to write this review. Oop. Anyway, this is here because I love the relationship in the book. I love it so much. And because of that it has probably the best, most satisfying sex scenes I've read in a while. But there was so much fuckery that took away from the best parts. Liam wasn't in the book nearly enough. Amanda acted stupid as all hell constantly. To much focus of the book was spent on the sociopath. I spent a lot of my reading time in this book angry. It was at its best when it was just Liam and Amanda. I wish I could have gotten a book full of that. I hate the lack of them and the wasted potential of the story.

The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini

This book is so good. It's a well-written, poignant, emotionally rough read. But I don't think I've ever hated a book's protagonist as much as I hated Amir. He was fucking awful from a child into adulthood. I hated the horrible, inhumane things that happened to people throughout the story. Particularly Hassan. Such a sweet boy and man and so much terrible shit happened to him. And Amir is all tra la la. OMG, WHY IS YOUR LIFE SO GOOD WHEN HIS WAS SO AWFUL. HATE.
